Get to Know Dr. Alfonso
Board Certified Orthodontist
Dr. Alfonso is originally from Venezuela, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from UGMA in 2003. His interest in orthodontics soon grew into a passion. He loves creating beautiful smiles and seeing how those changes lift a patient’s confidence and self-esteem.
In 2006, he received his Diploma in the Specialty of Orthodontics and Maxillofacial Orthopedics from the Technological University of Mexico (UNITEC). He then returned to Venezuela to focus on private practice. In 2014, Dr. Alfonso and his family moved to the US so he could begin a Fellowship in Orthodontics at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
During his fellowship, he expanded his knowledge of newer techniques and technologies. These included Clear Aligner Therapy and Cone Beam Computed Tomography for surgical planning in patients who need orthognathic surgery.
In 2018, Dr. Alfonso was accepted into an Orthodontic Residency Program and earned his second Certificate in Orthodontics. [EDITOR NOTE: Residency institution and completion year missing/garbled on dev page — confirm before publishing.]
His journey then led to San Antonio with his wife, Angie, and their sons, Juan Pablo and Mateo. There, the family found an amazing city full of opportunities to explore, a family-friendly environment, and great people ready to welcome them. When Dr. A. has free time outside the office, he and Angie look for outdoor activities to help burn off JP’s and Mateo’s endless energy.
